Aniimo Skills Locked? How to Unlock & Equip Active Skills

Aniimo skills

Active Skills Guide

Quick answer: Aniimo has two separate skill systems. Your Pathfinder's active skills and passive talents unlock as your title rises and are learned with Demo Tapes (active) and Report Cards (passive). Your Aniimo's combat skills are learned in Aniimo Management → Skills (P key on PC). A locked skill is almost always a missing prerequisite in whichever system it belongs to — not a level gate.

Why Is My Skill Locked?

Skills lock for one of two reasons, depending on the system:

  1. Pathfinder skills — locked by your title. The game states it directly: "as your Pathfinder Title rises, you unlock more Active Skills and Passive Talents." Even unlocked, a skill must be learned with the right item (Demo Tape / Report Card).
  2. Aniimo combat skills — the Skills button in Aniimo Management only lists learned skills. Unlearned = locked. Learn new ones in that same menu.

Aniimo skills do not unlock by level, evolution or form — no such thresholds exist in the game data. If yours looks "locked", check which system it belongs to first.

How to Unlock Active Skills

Pathfinder skills

  1. Promote your title — each promotion unlocks more active skills and passive talents (see the Leveling Guide for the full ladder)
  2. Learn them — a Demo Tape teaches an active skill; a Report Card teaches (and upgrades) a passive talent
  3. Equip them — on the Character screen: combat skill sets (used in battle) and Mobility sets (used out of battle) are configured separately. PC keys: Q/E for skills, T for Mobility, R for Ultimate

Aniimo skills

  1. Open Aniimo Management (PC key P)
  2. Press the Skills button on the right
  3. The list shows learned combat skills — learn new ones or adjust the equipped set there
  4. A newly learned skill can be equipped automatically as an active skill

Level Requirements

There is no global "skill unlocks at level X" table — skills don't gate on Aniimo level. The progression gate is your Pathfinder title for your own skills, and learning (not leveling) for Aniimo skills.

Evolution / Form Requirements

Evolution does not unlock or lock skills — it changes form, stats and sometimes role. A Prismana form changes the appearance; skill sets are managed separately in the Skills menu. If a skill vanished after evolving, check the equipped set — the newly evolved form may have a different kit to re-equip.

Active vs Passive

  • Active skills — combat abilities you trigger (and your Aniimo triggers in Twine mode). They cost EP
  • Passive talents — always-on effects; learned and upgraded with Report Cards
  • Innate skills — a third type: every Aniimo has one fixed innate skill (49 in the game, one per species). Cost 0 EP, cannot be learned, cannot be changed. Examples: Glacy's Spring of Life (heals allies 36% of caster's max HP over 6s), Rock Smash (Power 260 — the highest in the game)

The full database: 252 skills — 122 Physical, 93 Magic, 38 Support (plus the innate layer).

Why Skill Still Shows Locked

  • Wrong item — active skills need Demo Tapes, passives need Report Cards; having one doesn't unlock the other
  • Title too low — the skill isn't in your unlock pool yet; promote first
  • Looking at the wrong Aniimo — skills are per-Aniimo, not per-account
  • It's an innate skill — those aren't locked, they're automatic; you can't change them

Common Problems

  • EP management — EP is shared by the whole team (6 blue orbs under the status bar). It recovers over time and basic attacks restore some. Mobility skills cost no EP
  • Ultimate not firing — the ring around the Ultimate icon fills by using your Aniimo's skills (up to 3 segments). Press R when a segment is full. Ultimates only work in Twine mode. In co-op, casting opens a Chain Timing window for other Pathfinders — chain with Y for a Chain Burst
  • Catch mode — switch your Aniimo's behavior to Catch (PC key J) so it stops attacking at 30% HP and doesn't kill what you're trying to capture

FAQ

How do I learn new Aniimo skills?

Aniimo Management → Skills button → learn from the list there. No items needed.

Why can't I learn a Pathfinder skill?

Check your title, then check you have the right teaching item: Demo Tape for active, Report Card for passive.

Do skills unlock at a certain level?

No. Pathfinder skills gate on title promotions; Aniimo skills gate on learning in the Skills menu.

Can I change an Aniimo's innate skill?

No — innate skills are fixed per species (one each), cost 0 EP, and can't be learned or swapped.
